Building Department

Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical Permits are required for all new projects and most remodeling projects including additions, decks, sheds, garages, roof replacement, fencing, installation of furnaces and air conditioning units, installation of hot tubs and pools, and installation of water heaters. Permit fees vary depending on the project. All permit applications and the fee schedule can be viewed or downloaded HERE.

How to Pay for Building Permits and Plan Review Fees
Payment Drop-Box
Drop-boxes are located insider the City  Hall lobby and outside the building by the library book-return box. Please place your cash or check in an envelope and deposit into the drop-box. If you have any questions about the drop box, please contact City hall at (313) 822-6200.

At the Counter
Building permit fees can be paid at the front counter located on the second floor of City Hall at 15115 E Jefferson Ave, Grosse Pointe Park MI, 48230. City Hall is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday for making payments. 

Credit Cards
At this time credit cards cannot be used to pay for permit fees. 

Business Owners who want to expand service or vending outside are required to apply for the appropriate outdoor permit: 
- Outdoor Seating/Vending License (for set ups on business owned property)
- Expanded Outdoor Footprint on Non-Business Owned Property Permit (sidewalks, street, non-business owned parking lots)
Businesses should have their application permit and fees turned in no later then June 12th. The forms can be found here

A Certificate of Occupancy  is required whenever there is a change of ownership of a home or business or new residential construction. The City Inspector must complete an inspection of the property and all code violations must be corrected BEFORE a Certificate of Occupancy will be issued. All inspections are completed by appointment only and should be preferably scheduled at least two weeks before the preferred inspection date. The Certificate of Occupancy is valid for two years from the date of the initial inspection. Inspection fees are as follows and must be paid in advance of the scheduled inspection:

  •  Single-Family Residence, $200
  • Two-Family Residence, $300
  • Three-Family Residence, $350
  • Four-Family Residence, $400
