Hazardous waste needs to be disposed of properly. Many hazardous waste products can be toxic, flammable, corrosive, or may react with other substances which could create harmful fumes or explosions. Hazardous waste products include the words DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, CORROSIVE, or FLAMMABLE on the container. If you have hazardous waste that needs to be disposed of, please call the City Environmental Hazardous Waste Hot Line at 313-923-2240 for assistance. GFL also DOES NOT accept household batteries for recycling but they will be accepted at hazardous waste days through out the year. Hazardous waste including household batteries, should never be included with your regular household rubbish.
The City also participates in an area wide hazardous waste disposal day with the other Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods. This takes place in the spring of each year. In addition, Wayne County hosts multiple Household Hazardous Waste Days throughout the year which can be found here.
