Zoning Board of Appeals

Overview

The City of Grosse Pointe Park Zoning Board of Appeals has two primary responsibilities. The first of these is to interpret the language of the City's Zoning Ordinance when its meaning is unclear, or when there is uncertainty as to whether the language applies to a particular situation. The board is also responsible for the interpretation of the zoning map, including questions concerning the location of zoning district boundaries.  The Bylaws for the Zoning Board of Appeals can be found here.

The Zoning Board of Appeals also considers requests for variances for those wishing to deviate for the standards set forth in the Zoning Ordinance. A variance is required of anyone wishing to construct over and beyond the limits set forth in the ordinance. Residents and developers are urged to contact the Department of Public Services prior to the start of any project to ensure that it is compliant with the City of Grosse Pointe Park Zoning Ordinance and, if necessary, inquire about the variance process.
