July 2024 Hydrant Flushing

Grosse Pointe Park Department of Public Safety along with the Public Works Department will begin its routine fire hydrant maintenance and flushing of water mains beginning Tuesday, July 2nd and should conclude by the end of next week. We will start everyday of flushing at 9am. Crews will begin flushing the hydrants south of Jefferson and then proceed to the north end of the city.

The purpose of flushing is to remove sediment build up in the mains and to verify the safe operation of hydrants and valves.

Hydrant flushing may result in temporary discoloration of the water, caused by small particles that dislodge during the flushing, as well as a temporary reduction in water pressure. In the event of discoloration, we advise running the cold tap water in the lowest point of your home for a few minutes until the water is clear. Please refrain from washing clothes until the water runs clear. For any concerns or issues please call the Department of Public Works at 313-822-5100. We appreciate your cooperation and the temporary interruption.
