💧 Water Usage (Now Separated into Water and Sewer Charges)
A charge based on the actual amount of water flowing to the property used during the billing period measured in cubic feet (748 gallons of water equals 1 cubic foot). Water usage rates reflect water used during the billing cycle measured by a water meter encompassing direct activities like drinking, showering, or watering the lawn by the customer. Usage charges are necessary to cover the cost of purchasing water from one of the water treatment facilities operated by the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA).
🚰 Sewer Usage (Previously Water Usage, Now Separated into Water and Sewer Charges)
A charge based on the actual amount of wastewater flowing from the property during the billing period measured in cubic feet based on the amount of water the property uses during the billing period. Sewer usage rate is based on water usage reflecting cubic feet of wastewater that is flowing from the property through the city’s sewer and storm drain systems.
🔧 Water Fixed (Formerly Great Lakes Water Charge)
Water fixed rate reflects the cost of distributing water to each dwelling unit that covers the cost of GLWA’s water plant operations and its capital improvement plan for the investment in assets to upgrade the authorities aging infrastructure, the cost of the City of Grosse Pointe Park’s administration and the department of public works operation to maintain, repair, upgrade, replace, and service the city’s water mains and to complete its lead line replacement project.
🛠️ 🚰 Sewer Fixed (Formerly Capital Projects and Sewer Usage Rate)
Sewer fixed rate reflects the cost of moving wastewater from each dwelling unit that covers the cost of GLWA’s wastewater treatment plant operation and its cost of maintaining infrastructure. The city operates a pump station for the transition of sewage from the city to GLWA to be cleaned before being returned to the environment. Fixed costs include the City of Grosse Pointe Park’s operation of the lift stations, EERV, and the administration of the department of public works operation to read water meters, maintain, repair, upgrade, replace, and service the city’s sewer lines, storm drains, sewer lining, and city catch basins including the pumping, treating, and disposal of wastewater.
