Protecting Our Environment: Local Information & Resources

The City of Grosse Pointe Park and its employees care about our environment, and we demonstrate that care every day.  We provide healthy living options for our citizens and do our part to protect the environment for all.

Grosse Pointe Park is a beautiful, upscale, suburban community on the shores of Lake St. Clair in southeastern Michigan.  Before incorporation as a city, the area that would become Grosse Pointe Park was incorporated as the Village of Fairview.  It incorporated as the Village of Grosse Pointe Park in 1907 and as the city of Grosse Pointe Park in 1950.  The Park is recognized for excellence in its schools, the quality of its housing stock, the safety and welfare of its citizens and its commitment to the special enhancements that make a city a community.

Clinton River Watershed Council

The City of Grosse Pointe Park coordinates public education activities with 45 other communities in the Clinton River and Lake St. Clair Watersheds by working with the Clinton River Watershed Council (CRWC).  The goal is to inform the public about their role in protecting water quality and preventing stormwater pollution.  The CRWC (www.crwc.org) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, enhancing, and celebrating the Clinton River, its watershed, and Lake St. Clair.  For over 50 years, the CRWC has worked collaboratively with local governments, businesses, individuals, and other community groups to address water quality and land use issues in the watershed.  https://youtu.be/5rjkd_Pypfw

CRWC provides many opportunities for the public to become involved in the protection of our precious water resources.  These include environmental factsheets, workshops, volunteer training, clean-up events, water festivals, stream sampling, and hot topic presentations.   Currently planned events are listed here:  www.crwc.org/events.  Educational resources can be found here:  www.crwc.org/resource-library.

Southeast Michigan Council of Governments

The City participates in the Southeast Michigan Partners for Clean Water group facilitated by the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) and support/share the resources available from this group, including: Seven Simple Steps to Clean Water brochures, tip cards and kids activity sheets.
