To maintain the safety, appearance, and economic vitality of our community, the City requires owners of vacant buildings to register their properties. This ordinance helps ensure that vacant properties are properly maintained and do not become a nuisance to neighbors or a hazard to public safety.
Who Needs to Register?
Property owners must register any building that has been unoccupied for more than 30 consecutive days and does not have an active building permit or ongoing construction. This applies to both residential and commercial properties.
How to Register?
Owners must submit a Vacant Building Registration Form, and renew it every six months as long as the property remains vacant.
Why Registration is Important
Vacant buildings, when left unchecked, can deteriorate and negatively impact property values. Registration ensures that owners take responsibility for upkeep and security. It also allows the City to monitor vacant properties and work with owners to facilitate their return to productive use.
