Alley Tips

City of Grosse Pointe Park  - Tips for Keeping Your Alley Clean & Safe

1. Manage Vegetation

- Trim back trees, shrubs, and vines from alleyways to maintain clearance for vehicles and pedestrians.
 - Keep grass and weeds along fences and garages mowed or pulled regularly.

2. Dispose of Waste Properly

- Never dump trash, furniture, appliances, or hazardous materials in the alley.
 - Use your assigned trash and recycling containers, and make sure lids are closed to prevent litter.
 - Take bulky or hazardous items to approved disposal sites or schedule a special pickup.

3. Maintain Clear Access

- Do not block alleys with parked vehicles, trailers, or large equipment.
 - Keep alleys free of obstacles so sanitation trucks, emergency vehicles, and utility crews can get through.

4. Prevent Illegal Dumping

- Report illegal dumping to the City immediately.
 - Consider adding motion-sensor lighting near your garage or fence line to discourage dumping.

5. Store Containers Properly

- Place trash and recycling bins out only on collection days and remove them promptly afterward.
 - Store containers on your property, not in the alley, to keep passageways clear.

6. Safety First

- Wear gloves when picking up litter or handling debris.
 - Do not attempt to move large or hazardous items yourself — call the City for assistance.

A clean alley benefits everyone — it improves safety, prevents pests, increases property values, and strengthens neighborhood pride.
